Roof Scrape East Farleigh, Maidstone

Earlier this year, a customer in East Farleigh, Maidstone contacted us to request a quote for moss removal from their roof.

During our initial site visit, it was immediately clear that moss growth had completely taken over the roof surface. The customer was planning to put the property on the market in the summer and was aware that the heavy moss coverage would likely be highlighted during the sales process.

We explained the two available moss removal methods and, given the extent of the moss growth, mutually agreed that the scrape and biocide treatment would be the most suitable solution. With such a significant volume of moss present, there was a strong possibility that the freeze–thaw cycle over the years had caused some cracked tiles, making this method the safest and most effective approach.

Following a detailed quotation, which the customer was happy to proceed with, the work was scheduled. Due to the large surface area of the roof—approximately 350 m²—the project was planned to take four days to complete. Using safe working practices, including mobile access towers, extension poles with scraper blades, and water-fed poles to apply the biocide, we successfully completed the work within the allocated timeframe.

The property was left with a moss-free roof, cleared gutters, and a post-treatment biocide application to eliminate any remaining moss embedded within the tiles, as well as lichen and surface algae. By the summer, the roof will have naturally lightened, leaving it in excellent condition and ready for estate agents to photograph the property for sale.
